My Doily Rug Tutorial

I got my Cotton Cording a few weeks ago and was super excited! It came on a huge spool and was actually pretty intimidating. Here is what it looks like:I got a 5 pound spool which is 288 yards of 5/32 cotton cord. I got it here.

I used a Lion Brand Crochet Hook Size S.
I used this pattern for the doily rug.

Here it is started!
It took me about 6-7 hours non stop!It could not have turned out better. In the end I used about 210 yards of the cord and decided to leave it the natural cotton color.

Here is another one I did that is much smaller, but uses the same idea. This one I dyed Turquoise.

So many pictures! They are both available in my etsy shop! I love them, but I have to make a living!

  1. I saw another rug kind of like this only it was 4 feet in diameter and they used a different pattern along with bigger cotton rope. I can't find the cotton rope anywhere so I am so glad you posted this! :D Now I know where to get materials and such to make my own. :) Great pattern and photos! :)

  3. I love this rug! How big is it anyway? I am thinking about attempting it, but I want to make sure it's the right size. It's outstanding!!! Thanks and I hope you will respond with the size!

  4. I really love collecting rugs! And indeed, rugs like these can be made as a centerpiece. But you can possibly make bigger crochet rugs which you can put in your bedroom or in the sofa. In Fort Myers, carpet cleaning services are so innovated now they can even clean even your rugs in no time.

  5. This one was about 30 inches. You can make them bigger or smaller depending on the pattern.

  9. Wow! So... Did you just follow the pattern as it was, with no modifications? Just big "yarn" and a big hook made it that much bigger? Wow! That is REALLY REALLY cool and I MUST make one! Thank you so much for sharing!

  13. I love crochet rugs! I pinned one a while
back, but like some one else said, finding the right material to use hasn't been easy. I have never used cotton cord, curious how durable is it?

Your rug is beautiful, thank you for sharing!
